I strongly recommend you reading "The Not So Short Introduction to LaTeX 2e," also known as "LaTeX 2e in 95 Minutes," by Tobias Oetiker, Hubert Partl, Irene Hyna and Elisabeth Schlegl. Depending on your time availability and seriousness about graphics, you may or may not want to read the rather thorough book "Using Imported Graphics in LaTeX 2e" by Keith Rechdahl.
